College Sports is Where It's At

This past school year has been one of the best in the history of LSU sports.  LSU has had four SEC runner-ups, four Western Division Champions, and four Conference Champions.  In its twenty sports, LSU has had nineteen of them to make post-season play, only men's basketball missed out.  In addition, LSU has had two national champions, football (does anything else really matter?) and women's outdoor track and field.  LSU has had individual national champions in track and field and gymnastics.  Who can forget the excitement of the women's Final Four or the Super Regional?  It has been a fun year for LSU fans around the world.

I have had the blessing to have grown up here in Baton Rouge and been able to follow LSU sports going on fifty-five years.  It has been sometimes very frustrating and at other times very exhilarating.     I guess because of this bias, I have always loved college sports over professional sports.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy following my favorite pro sports teams, but it ain't nothing like following the Tigers.

Why is that?  I'll give you some reasons why college sports are better than the pros.  The first is you can be an alumnus of the school.  You can't get that personal with let's say, the Saints.  You also know that your school isn't going to pull up roots and move to greener pastures.  In pro sports, you only have one team to root for, at the college level you have, in LSU's case, twenty sports you can follow.  You might not follow them all with the same amount of enthusiasm, but I promise you, you do follow them.  And because of all of these sports, you can follow your school year round as opposed to a pro team for only the few months they are playing.  It has been a fun year to be a Tiger.  I hope y'all have enjoyed it as much as I have.

College Sports is where it's at.

The Pelican is Spreading its Wings

I try to keep the advertisements and self promotions down in this E-News.  However, I have to make an exception today.  KPBN, The Pelican, is spreading its wings.  Y'all all know I do Sports Talk TV with Greg Bowser on Sunday nights from 9-10, with replays on Sunday from 11-12 and on Monday night from 7-8.

The Pelican is a low power over-the-air station in Baton Rouge, Channel 11.  However, most of our coverage is on the cable systems.  We have been on Cox and Charter cable systems on extended cable channel 113.

Now The Pelican is also on the Baton Rouge and Lafayette Cox systems on channel HD 713.  We have been approved to also go into the New Orleans area on Cox HD.  We hope to be there by the start of football season.

When this occurs, The Pelican will be on in most all of  south central and southeast Louisiana.  I don't know of another station that will have as broad of coverage as The Pelican.

We are also the only station that streams its programing 24-7 on the internet.  You can pick us up anytime at www.pelicansportstv.com .

Tell your friends and neighbors in our new coverage area to look for Greg and me on Sports Talk TV.

Until next time, may the good Lord bless and keep you.
