The Rooster's Crystal Ball

Now that we are less than one week away from the start of college football this season, it is time for the Rooster to predict the way this will all end in Miami at the Championship Game in January. So here goes.

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Florida
  3. Southern Cal
  4. Ohio State
  5. Auburn
  6. Missouri
  7. North Carolina
  8. Wisconsin
  9. Texas Tech
  10. BYU

Let's go over this and my reasoning.  First of all, I believe the champion will come out of the Big 12.  So it comes down to perennial power Oklahoma or the upstart program from Missouri.  The Missouri brand of Tigers are going to have to show me first.  Therefore the nod goes to the Sooners.  The SEC champion should always be in the Championship Game.  Therefore - Florida.

Southern Cal recently, always finds a way to lose a game or two they shouldn't.  I expect that trend to continue.  They will be pressed hard by Arizona State for the conference title, but the Trojans will prevail in the PAC 10.

Ohio State is in the same boat as USC.  They'll lose a game somewhere along the line, probably to  Wisconsin.

Auburn will win the West but lose the championship to Florida.

Ditto for Missouri in their conference championship.

Wisconsin is second in the Big Ten.

Texas Tech is second in the South to Oklahoma, and BYU will go undefeated and win the Mountain West.  BYU will be this year's team outside of the BCS conferences to wail and gnash their teeth about deserving a BCS Bowl spot.

You might have noticed that I did not have LSU in my Top Ten.  I still think LSU is a 9-3 team and will be ranked somewhere in the 11 to 15 range in the country.

This should give you a pretty good idea as to how I see the upcoming season.

Now if you really believe that this will all transpire as I have forecast, then ...

Tid Bits

  1. Usain Bolt is one of the most amazing athletes I have ever seen.  He definitely is special.
  2. Don't get too worked up about the Saints win at the Bengals.  Cincy had very few of their offensive weapons available to them for the game.
  3. The team from Lake Charles lost the American Finals in the Little League World Series Saturday to Hawaii.  They lost a 5-1 lead in the last inning and lost the game 7-5.  Hawaii scored on four singles that were all ground balls that found the hole in the infield.  It was a tough loss for the Louisiana kids, but in my opinion, it was just the luck of the baseball gods not shining down on them.  Anyone of the those balls could have been caught if hit a foot or two the other way.  It was just the breaks of the game.

Congratulations to them on a great run through the series.

  1. Did you see where Forbes Magazine had an article on the money in college football?  The article stated that college football athletic departments generate $2 billion annually.  And that $1.87 billion come from the six BCS conferences.  Is it any wonder why the non-BCS conferences don't deserve to play in the BCS Bowls?
  2. Gene Upshaw died this past week.  He will go down as one of the most important people in the history of the NFL.
  3. If Candice Parker wins a WNBA title this season, she will have won in 2008 an NCAA Championship at Tennessee, an Olympic gold medal, and a WNBA title.  Ain't bad!

Until next time, may the good Lord bless and keep you.
